Apple Season

Tuesday August 19, 2008
I live in the Hudson Valley where the fall means APPLES! All the trees have various shades of red and green apples on them right now... but only "summer apples" are available at the local farm stands. Summer apples have to be refrigerated which puts the "apple scent" in the refrigerator unless you are baking a pie... and I prefer Macs for pie baking so there's no apple scent in the house unless I make a Potpourri Pie with apple pie scented potpourri... sewing room to the rescue!

I work delivering school buses for the summer and we were commenting on how full the apple trees along the Thruway looked yesterday! I love fall, it is my favorite time of year. The only drawback is what comes after it! But the colors and the harvest and the craft fairs…aah. No more hot, hazy, horrible days. Blue September sky. Nice.

Great idea Debbie! I am going to make some mini pies and hang them throughout the house. This project gives me a chance to practice making ruffles!

Hi I love your web advice and ideas! Thanks so much.
I thought I’d pass this along from my vet, that all kinds of potpourri is lethal to dogs. I am not sure about cats, etc. My little dog was nearly dead when I found this out. Why in the world don’t they mark the potpourri bags so that we know not to leave it on the floor when it spills? Ahhhh
