In my house the belt loops on jeans are always a mending issue. My husband rips them off because he attaches everything under the sun to his "loops"... his set of keys is bound to rip the belt loop to say nothing of flashlights and other "tools". Other family members tug at their jeans via the loops to pull them up... I'd rather they pull them UP than see them wearing their jeans below things that should be covered by jeans if ya know what I mean. But that means tattered fabric where the belt loop should be sewn to the pants. I love that Coats has the perfect thread for mending jeans... so much so that I keep extra spools on hand in a special container so I can find it when I need it. I use that special thread to repair those ripped off belt loops. Learning How to Repair Ripped Fabric and a Torn Belt Loop on Jeans has saved a ton in replacing jeans.
