Beginning and ending a seam doesn't sound like a very interesting topic... until you really start to analyze what goes in to the process... or try explaining it to someone who wants to throw a sewing machine in the trash because it keeps jamming every time they start sewing. Teaching someone to sew is a great reason to analyze all those little things you have been doing for years. The bottom line is that you need to begin and end a seam in a certain way if you want a secure dependable seam and your stitches to stay put.

when do you know what machine to use? I can see when a serger is used and when a single needle/double needle is used, but what determines the best machine for certain areas?
I appreciate your work and all that you do. I share all with my folks in Corrections. We have 5 shops that sew all the Apparel for Corrections, and your training procedures have really helped to setup the supervisors and inmates to do it the right way.
thanks.
