I think that most people who sew have gotten caught up in quilt and craft sewing, leaving clothing construction to the side. I know it's been a while since I've sewn any clothing but after a trip to the store and total disgust with what I found, I'll be going back to making clothing. I certainly have a stash of fabric on hand that can be turned in to one heck of a wardrobe!

I had fun making 2 of the following skirts this summer. I am lucky enough that a length of 45″ fabric goes around my hips with some inches to spare. They’re really easy and cool for summer.
- 1 yard or more of lightweight silky-type fabric 45% wide
- 1/2″ or 3/4″ elastic to go around your waist + 1″
- cut length of fabric to desired length – waist to knees or mid-calf + 2-3″ for hems
- turn under 1/4″ at cut edges. Turn under again, to allow about 1″ hem at top and bottom. Machine-finish the hem at top leaving selvage ends open. Machine or hand-finish hem at bottom to desired length.
- thread elastic through top hem and adjust it to fit your waist. Stitch ends at selvages.
- sew side seam starting at waist and down to slightly above the knee. I leave the seam open at the knee and below for ease in walking. On both prints I used the print ran right to the edge, so the selvages looked fine left unfinished.
- done! enjoy your skirt
