One of the most common questions I am asked is how I keep sewing ... don't I ever have a hard time getting started? I will tell everyone that just like everyone else I can have a hard time starting a project or digging in. So how do I overcome the problem..
- First I clean up and organize my sewing area. Nothing is more discouraging than a cluttered mess that leaves you searching for tools and parts of what you are making. Operation Organization - Sewing Room Organization Ideas
- If I am still stymied, I pick out a simple project. Once you finish a simple project, you remember how rewarding sewing is and you end up wanting to sew more. Free Sewing Projects for Learning to Sew
- I also find that it helps to assemble exactly what I need and keep that one project and what it needs in one bag or clear plastic box. That way I have what I need in one place and it keeps me on task. The next time you are buying plastic bags, take a look at all of the large size bags that are available. You may buy a box just for organizing your sewing projects.
- Above all I have learned to allow myself time for my sewing. If I have all kinds of other things I should be doing, it's difficult to stay focused on the sewing I want to do and nothing gets finished. If I clean the house and put dinner in the crockpot (More than 1400 Crockpot Recipes for the Crockpot) ...before I start sewing, I can stay focused on sewing.

Dear Mrs. Colgrove,
if I would first clean the house and start cooking I would never
start sewing! My advice would be to abandon the chores and
begin the activity you want to do!

Petra
LOL I used to think that way… now I clean house once a week to keep things tidy… and put everyone in the house on notice… I am not nice when they leave me a mess. I find I can have a less “distractions” if the other tasks are done.
