So far we have escaped the frost and freeze warnings... but they have come close. We aren't wasting any time getting the firewood set and we have lit the wood stove a few times to take the chill off the house. We have saved a bundle by having the wood stove to help heat the house. So much so that a friend decided to have a wood stove installed. It made it easy for me to figure out what I would make them as a holiday gift this year. I may give their gift a little early though so they don't hurt their backs carrying in firewood!

I live in Scotland, where natural gas and electric rates are going up an eyewatering 9%! In 2010 my husband replaced our dying gas boiler with two wood stoves and we have never regretted it. the stoves heat not only our entire semi-detached two bedroom bungalow, but our water too, and we can also cook atop the stoves with cast iron cookware.
Are we saving money? Oh yes, so much so that a number of our friends have made the switch as well. The surprising biggest saving is the electric bill-turning off the hot water heater cut 40% off our electric bill, it was shocking to see the savings.
I made these carriers last year for us, this year I too will be making them for friends who have switched. The pattern and directions are perfect and leave plenty of room for personalisation.
This is a wonderful quick gift. I made one in 20 minutes from start to finish. I serged the edges and then stitched on the webbing. It’s a great housewarming or host & hostess gift. Especially great for guys – and most I know are hard to buy for. My son-in-law loved it!
