Salvaging Flood Damaged Sewing Machines

Sandy has proven challenging for a LOT of people... many who don't normally see hurricane damage first hand. I can only hope that before people try plugging in electric tools they let them totally dry out. Staying safe is MUCH more important than satisfying your curiosity to know if an appliance is able to be saved.

Thanks for the caution. However, I’d avoid the advice to get WD-40 (or 3-in-1 oil) into the innards of ANY sewing machine. The stuff is a water repellant, not a suitable lubricant. It gums up, rather quickly in fact, and can require further service later on to get it out. Stick with sewing machine oil and Triflow oil (and Triflow grease or other manufacturer-recommended grease where needed), and MAYBE some PB Blaster to free up any parts that have rusted together. WD-40? Absolutely not.
