folding diagram
Step 1
Using a gauge or measuring tool, measure and fold under 1/4" along the 16" edge of your fabric, on both ends, bringing wrong sides together. Press this fold in to place.

second folding diagram
Repeat the above step so that the raw edge becomes enclosed. Press well!

Stitching the hem down
Now you will sew the hem down, keeping your stitches as close to the folded loose edge as possible. Tip: It is advisable to train your eye to not watch the needle. Set up you foot and needle so that it will stitch where you want the stitches and find an area of your foot, of your throat plate on your machine or place a piece of tape for your fabric edge to follow and for your eye to watch. Stitch the hem on both ends.

Forming the pillow
Using the marks you made 10" from the ends of the fabric, bring the hemmed edge in towards the center of the fabric, folding on the marks with the right sides of the fabric together.

folding the other end
Repeat the above folding procedure for the other end of the fabric. There will be an area in the middle where the hems over lap each other.
Pin the sides in place. Never sew over pins! While placing your pins, keep in mind that you will be sewing in 1/2" from the edge. Place your pins Perpendicular to the seam edge, so that the tip of the pin is at least 3/4" from the edge.

stitching the seams
Use the measurements on your sewing machine throat plate or a piece of tape to sew a seam in both edges that is !/2" wide. Remove pins as you come up to them to prevent any possibility of sewing over them.

zig zag the raw edges
If your sewing machine has zig zag capabilities, zig zag the raw edge of the seam allowances, to prevent them from fraying.
If you only have a straight stitch available, sew a second seam in the seam allowances created in the above step.

Press
Press your newly formed seams. This helps "set" the stitches in to the fabric and gives you a smoother seam line. Do not press the folded ends until you have turned the pillow cover right sides out, then press the seams as smooth as possible and press the folds, if desired.

Pillow front
Place the pillow form inside the pillow cover and smooth it towards the corners. The back sections will cover over each other.

Congratulations!!! You have made your first Envelope Back Pillow.
