Notebook Pencil & Pen Holder with Two Compartments 01/16/05 Debbie Colgrove Pencil & Pen holders fall apart long before the binder. Here you'll find free full directions to make your own fabric version with duel compartments. The girls are bound to appreciate a descreet way keep personal supplies close at hand between classes.

Note: Some people have contacted me that their notebooks are not large enough for this pen & pencil holder. Please check the size of your notebook and alter the measurements if necessary. It is perfect for a "Trapper-Keeper" style notebook.

• One piece of fabric - 13" x 21"
• Two pieces of fabric 13"x10 1/2" each
• 9" zipper
• 12" zipper
• 1 -12"x 3/4" strip of Fabric Bowl/Box interfacing or multiple layers of craft interfacing (See Fabric Boxes for an economical source of interfacing.)
  
  Directions
  
• Cut your fabric to size
• On the 13" by 21" piece of fabric, measure 4" down from a 13" edge and 6 1/2" from the 21" edge. Make a line 9" long centered on this mark.
• Stitch 1/4" from this line, creating a rectangle as shown in the photo. Cut a "V" in each end of the rectangle and a straight slit through the middle of the rectangle.

• Press back, folding on the stitching lines.

• Place 9" zipper in the center of this rectangle and top stitch it in place.
• Place the 13" x 21" flat on a table, wrong side of fabric up.
• Place each 13"x10 1/2" piece of fabric right side up on the 13" x 21" piece of fabric, matching the 13" edge. Baste 1/4" from the 13" edge.
• Zipper:
  
  With the 13" x 21" piece of fabric right side up, place the zipper, pull side down with the tape along the raw 13" basted edge. Stitch the xipper to the fabric, stitching 1/4" from the edge.

• Turn so the 13"x10 1/2" pieces of fabric are on the outside, leaving the xipper open enough to turn right side out when you are done with the seams. Sew a 1/2" seam on each side, matching the ziper edges at the top.
  
• Turn right side out and press.
• Place the 12"x 3/4" strip of interfacing in side the pouch all the way to the bottom. Press in place.
• Top stitch along the inside edge of the interfacing.

• Place a mark in the center of the folded/interfaced edge, 3/8" from the edge. Make a two more marks 4 1/2" to each side of the center mark, 3/8" from the edge.
• Sew a 1/4" buttonhole centered on each mark.
• Open buttonholes and place in binder
