A Nail Apron for Woodworking
Debbie Colgrove

My husband loves his nail pouch but I noticed he uses it for much more than just nails. A marking pencil seems to be lost in the bottom of the nail pouch.

A shortened version of a BBQ Apron with the optional pocket used for nails and an upper pocket added for pencils seems to resolve the problem, and protects the front of his shirt while he works.

To change the BBQ apron to a nail apron make the following changes:
  • When cutting the apron, change the 32" measurement to 14"
  • For the optional pocket, change the 14" measurment to 5 1/2". Follow the optional pocket directions. Use two rows of stitching at the center of the pocket.
  • Add a pencil pocket by cutting a piece of fabric 5" X 5". Hem one edge for the top of the pocket (fold under 1/4" and 1/4" again, top stitch in place.) Fold the other three edges under 1/4". Place the pocket in the center of the apron, 4" from the top edge. Top stitch in place. Mark three evenly spaced vertical lines on the pocket and top stitch to create pencil segments.
