Poncho - Directions for making a facing pattern

Continued from page 1
Debbie Colgrove Dateline: 07/29/04

Creating your own facing pattern is not as challenging as you may think. Here are step by step instructions to create a facing pattern for a poncho.

Materials needed:
Paper
Pen, pencil or marker
yardstick, gauge or ruler

Directions

On a flat surface, lay the cut poncho flat with paper under the cut neck opening.

Trace the edge of the opening on to the paper.

Remove the fabric and make dots 2 1/2" from the traced lines.

Join the dots to create the edge of the facing. (The gray lines in the photo show an alternative "V" shaped facing.)

Cut out the created pattern.

Note: When cutting out the pattern, place the side of the paper with the trace lines on it,on the right side of the fabric to compensate for any differences their might be in your neckline.
