Materials List:
- 1" or wider Satin Ribbon
- Stabilizer
- Embroidery Thread (regular thread can be used but consider the the shine and dazzle of Rayon or Polyester thread)
- Temporary Spray Adhesive
Set up your sewing machine for embroidering letters. (Refer to your machine manual) Always test your selection on a scrap of fabric to test the size and design. Mark the starting point (the first place the machine needle penetrates the fabric).
On almost every sewing machine, unless you use stabilizer, the ribbon will get pulled into the throat plate opening. Stabilizer will give the ribbon enough firmness to allow your stitching to float on the ribbon. (Unless you have experience with machine embroidery, odds are that you are unfamiliar with stabilizers. These are a VERY important step to any machine embroidery and can be purchased at almost any fabric store as well as many online sources. Learn more about stabilizers in the Machine Embroidery Tips Net Links.)
Place the ribbon over your test sample to check that it will fit on the ribbon and mark the starting point of your design.
Use temporary spray adhesive to adhere your ribbon to the stabilizer. Place your machine needle at the starting point mark. Do not force feed the sewing machine but gently guide the ribbon and stabilizer to keep the design straight.
Turn up the ends of the ribbon as shown and place the ends in the seam of your garment.
