Prepare the back pieces
The two back pieces are going to over lap each other. If you have chosen a fabric with a one way design be sure to place them do that they are both going to be running the design in the same direction.
Press the center edge of each back piece under 1/4", towards the wrong side of the fabric and then 1/4" again to enclose the raw edges. |
Stitch the hem down, keeping the stitches as close to the edge of the hem that is loose. This is a good place and time to experiment with needle positions and lining up you sewing machine foot, to obtain a straight stitch.Press well to set the stitches. |

Assembling the front to the back
|
Lay the back panels on to the front panel, right sides together, lining up your raw edges and corners. The two back panels will over lap each other. Line up all the edges and pin in to place, being sure to keep the pins out of where you will be stitching.
Working from the wrong side of the front panel, so that you can see the stitches that attached the piping, stitch the layers together. Finish your seam allowance with a serger or zig zag stitch.
Press the pillow cover to pull all the piping to the edge.Turn right side out and stuff with your pillow or form. If you master this project, I would love to see you move on to the Ruffled Pillow. If that seems to intimidating, try making the corded pillow but substitute eyelet or another purchased trim in to the side seams.

To end the piping, you can take apart the piping and fold back the fabric, cut the roping and insert the raw end inside the folded back edge. It is perfectly acceptable to take the easy way out with this small piping to over lap and take the piping back out to the edges as shown in the diagram.
