Fur Steering Wheel Cover!
fur steering wheel

Have you ever gotten in the car on a cold winter morning and felt like your hands were going to freeze to the steering wheel? Have you ever wished to have that fun and crazy nostalgic feel in your car? Start here, by making a fur steering wheel cover.

Word Of Caution! Be sure there is a snug fit to this cover. Do not drive the vehicle with the cover slipping around the steering wheel!
This cover is for a standard 15" steering wheel.

Materials Needed:

  • Plush Felt (Craft Fur) - One strip cut 5" wide by 42" long. Cut the 42" on the direction of the fur which has a bit of stretch or give. Beware of any fur that has too much stretch. This project was tested with fur that a 2" piece stretched to 3" at the maximum. You may want to buy extra to make matching Fuzzy Dice
  • 2 pieces of 1/4" wide elastic cut 20 1/2" long
  • Sewing machine
  • Matching Thread (contrasting is used in the photos for visibility)

Assembly Instructions

seaming the fur With wrong sides together, using a 1/2" seam allowance, seam the 5" edge.
tack the elastic at the seam Measure in 1/4", over lap and tack the elastic at the seam
elastic tacked
find half mark

Find the half way point of the fur and of the elastic and tack the elastic at the half way point on the fur, 1/4" in from the edge, the same way you did at the seam.

zig zag Fold the fur over the elastic and zig zag the raw edge of the fur to the body of the cover, keeping the elastic in the casing, by stretching it as you sew and not catching the elastic in the zig zag stitches.
completted cover

Repeat for the other side of the cover.
