Simple Tote BagDateline: 06/18/00Whenever you pack up for a day trip or a vacation, there are never enough bags to go around. Stop using grocery and shopping bags that rip at the most inopportune times! Here's a simple tote to make. The sizes used in this example make a tote that measures 14" by 14" when it is completed. See size variations and strap placement for additional sizing. You will need:
Procedure Cut all your pieces to the desired measurements. Fold the fabric, right sides together, with a fold in the longest length of fabric.
Use a zig zag stitch or a serger to finish the seams. To maintain the strength of your finished bag, it is strongly recommend that you do not skip a seam finish. Zig zag or serge the top raw edge.
Top stitch the top hem into place. Turn bag right side out and press. I have found finger pressing works best on nylon.
Line the outer edge of your webbing strap up with your mark and top stitching.
