- Beads-2-Fuse and Steam-A-Seam2
- Metallic thread
Directions
I had a turtle neck from last Christmas that still fit my daughter. Due to the candy cane design on the shirt it had not seen any wear. Not wanting to waste this shirt, I decided to recreate the design on the shirt, on to a bib skirt for this Christmas. Here's all the steps for you to create a holiday shirt.
- Trace a candy cane on to paper and widen it just a bit.
- Trace your pattern on to one piece of the Steam-A-Seam2, using a pencil, flipping the pattern over for a mirror image.
- Place this piece of Steam-A-Seam2. with one side of the paper removed, on top of the striped fabric. Adjust your pattern to have the stripes arranged like a candy cane. Press this piece of Steam-A-Seam2 in to place. DO NOT remove the top paper.
- Press another piece of Steam-A-Seam2 on the bottom of your striped fabric.
- Cut out your design and arrange on your garment or stocking. This is easy to play with due to the Steam-A-Seam2 properties.
- Remove the small section of top paper where the candy canes intersect.
- Press them into place. Leave the top piece of paper in place.
- Using regular red thread in your bobbin and metallic thread in the top (always feed this type of thread from an upright spool for even feeding), satin stitch or a tight zig zag stitch around the edges. Follow the top candy cane up through the center.
- Remove the top paper and now apply your Beads-2-Fuse.
Tips And Tricks
- Do not try to stitch after you have beaded. I found this very hard on the needle as well as disruptive to the beads.
- Use this idea for other appliques, such as those found in this sites Applique library.
- Always follow the manufacturers directions when using any product.
- Always prewash the fabrics you are fusing to remove all chemicals before trying to fuse. The finishing chemicals often interfere with the fusing abilities.
