  • On the pocket piece, turn under an edge that is on the quarter the width of the fabric edge, one inch.
  • Sew the hem in place by sewing as close to the turned under raw edge as possible. In the sample shown here I used a double needle.
  • Find the center of the pocket front and place your machine embroidery or applique
  • Mark the center of the bottom of the pocket and the center of the end of the shawl.
  • Match the marks, aligning the bottom edge of the pocket with the bottom edge of the shawl.
  • Use a decorative stitch or a blanket stitch to sew the side edges of the pocket in place.
  • Repeat for the other end of the shawl.
