Simple To Sew Bug Screen for Your Garden Hat

I love working in the garden but I do not love the gnats that seem to think my eyes are a feeding spot or something since they constantly fly straight into my eyes.
As everyone knows, you should wear protection from the sun and a hat is one of the best ways to protect your face and neck from the sun. Sew your own hat and then sew this simple removable addition to wear when the bugs are out in full force.

Materials

  • A garden hat
  • Tulle - Yardage will depend on the size of your hat and the desired length. For the example shown here, 2 yards of tulle was enough to sew two garden hat screens.
  • 1/4" wide elastic
  • Thread
The hat shown in this article was sewn using a pattern included in Wild Ginger Wild Things Free Pattern Making Software.
