Simple to Sew Placemat Pocketbook from a Single Rectangle Placemat

These free directions will guide you through the simple process of making a pocketbook from a rectangle fabric placemat. With all the wonderful placemats that are available, the possibilities are absolutely endless.... and because you only need one placemat, don't forget to watch the clearance and bargain sections of your favorite store!

Materials Needed

  • One rectangle fabric placemat
  • Thread to match the placemat (Choosing Thread Color)
  • 4" of 1" to 1 1/2" wide twill tape or webbing for the handle attachment and a purchased strap style pocketbook handle OR make your own handle as described in step 4 - to make your own you will need 1 yard of 1" wide webbing, 6" of cording or rope and two ring, circle or rectangle hardware pieces.
  • Optional Closure - 4 additional inches of webbing and 1" of 3/4 to 1" wide hook and loop tape
