- One yard of 1" wide synthetic webbing.
- Two square, rectangle or round metal rings to attach the handle.
- Thread to match the webbing
- Optional: two 6" pieces of cording or rope
Make the Handles
- Cut two 3" pieces of webbing
- Using a lighter or flame, carefully singe the cut ends to prevent them from unraveling.
- Lay the bag flat so the side seam is flat.
- Place the hardware on the 3" pieces of webbing.
- Fold the 3" pieces in half and bring the hardware to the fold, matching the ends of the webbing. (If you are using a purchased strap style handle, this is where you will attach this strap, by placing the 3" piece of webbing in hardware attached to the purchased strap.)
- Sew the ends of the webbing together.
- Place the end of the webbing inside the bag, on the side seam of the bag, centering the webbing on the bag, with the ends of the webbing on the inside edge of the hem (or a half inch from the edge if these is no hem).
- Securely sew the webbing and hardware combo to the side of the bag by sewing across the ends of the webbing at the hem stitching.
- Cut one 30" piece of webbing and singe the ends as you did the smaller pieces of webbing.
- Fold these pieces of webbing in half and mark the center.
- Lay the 6" piece of rope, centered on the center of the center mark.
- Fold the webbing over the rope, bringing the long edges together.
- Sew the ends and edges of the roped area together to enclose and secure the rope in the webbing. (You can find step by step instructions for inserting a rope piece in the handles, with photographs in the log carrier instructions.)
- Bring the ends of the 30" webbing strap through the hardware and attach it to itself just above the hardware. Sewing a square or rectangle makes a neater appearance than just stitching across the webbing.
- Make sure the strap is straight and repeat for the other end of the strap.
