Sew your own laptop case to save money and have a case you want. Sew a basic case following these directions and then be creative to add pockets or straps to customize your laptop case even more.
You will need:
  • The laptop
  • A tape measure
  • A pencil or pen
  • pattern material -- this can be newsprint paper, the back side of gift wrapping paper, interfacing or similar material.
  • Fabric (amount will depend on your laptop pattern) and optional double fold bias tape to enclose the upper edge of the case depending on the fabric you are using.
  • Hook and loop tape (Velcro) to close the case. You will need a piece a bit smaller than the width of the case.
Measure the Laptop
  • A The distance around the laptop from top edge to the other top edge. Shown in Green
  • B The amount of flap you want, starting at the second top edge to the amount you want to overlap the front of the case. Shown in yellow.
  • C The thickness of the laptop. Shown in red.
  • D The width of the laptop. Shown in blue.
