Prepare the Homasote

  • Measuring from the manufactured edges, mark the size you want for a bulletin board. Use a razor knife (box cutter) to score the lines. Gradually work the knife through the entire thickness of the Homasote.
  • Sand the edges to have a smooth edge.
  • Mark 3 to 4 inches in from the two corners you want to be at the top of the bulletin board. Note: If you may want to change the direction the board will hang in the future, mark a third corner so the board can be hung with that edge as the top.
  • On the smoother side (this will be the front of the bulletin board) drill a hole at each marking and counter sink the hole so that the bolt will lay flat with the surface of the Homasote.
  • Place a washer on the bolt and insert the bolt through the front of the board.
  • Place a washer on the back of the bot and then lightly tighten the nut.
  • Repeat for the second hole (and possible third).
  • Leaving a tail on the picture wire, place the wire between the the washer and nut.
  • Pull the wire tightly to the bolt.
  • Wrap the tail of the wire around the length side of the wire.
  • Bring the opposite end of the picture wire to the next nut and washer.
  • Hold the wire in a "pretend to hang" kind of way to assure that when the ware is hung it will remain an inch or so below the the top edge of the bulletin board.
  • Attach the wire the same way you did the first nut and washer.
  • Trim off excess wire or proceed to the final nut and washer if you are using a third.
  • Tighten the nuts to the board.
