Remember to add the seam allowances and hems described in the directions.

These directions are for a binder with the rings attached to the spine of the binder. A few details must be noted if you are sewing a cover for a binder with the rings offset on the back cover.

The Outside Cover

  • Lay the binder out flat on paper and trace the edges.
  • Mark where the spine of the binder is on the outline.
  • Add 1/4" to the outside of the traced outline.
  • Cut one of this pattern piece.
The Inside Flaps
    Trace the front of the outside binder cover, up to the spine markings.
  • Add 1/2" to the spine edge
  • Cut two of the inside flaps.
The Inside Pockets
  • Trace the inside flap pattern.
  • Fold the height of the piece in half.
  • Add 1" above the fold.
  • Cut two of the pocket pieces.
The Closing Flap
  • Cut two 3" squares for a 1 1/2" to 2" binder (Longer if you are using a large binder)
  • Round off two corners on one end.
