This simple project is a great way to protect your table and depending on the scent you use, you can make your family think they are having hot apple pie.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 minutes
Here's How:
- Materials needed:
- Fabric - two 6" squares
- Batting - two 6" squares (Note: If you fabric is light weight and the dishes are apt to be very hot, use cotton batting. Polyester batting is more likely to melt.)
- Thread
- Potpourri - apple and cinnamon scent works great
- Fabric - two 6" squares
Match and pin the edges of the fabric with the right sides together. Sew three sides using a 1/2" seam allowance.
- Turn so right side of fabrics is out. Press.
- Place the two layers of batting together matching the edges. Seam three sides using a 3/4" seam allowance.
- Stuff a small amount of potpourri between the batting layers. Seam the remaining side. Trim the seam to 1/4".
- Stuff the batting into your fabric pocket. Turn the edges of the opening under 1/2". Slip stitch or top stitch the edge closed.
Tips:
- Vary the potpourri scent to your family's favorite.
- Vary the size to fit under your larger casserole dishes.
- Top stitch all the edges for a slightly different effect.
- Store the hot pad in a closed plastic bag when not is use to preserve the scent.
