Materials
- Sweat suit, pajamas or dance leotard
- Costume Bunny Ears Free Pattern and Directions
- Bunny Tail -- Made from left over fake fur from the bunny ears
- Belly felt (amount varies with the size of the costume - to match the center of the ears)
- Fusible web to match belly felt (What is Fusible Web and How to Use Fusible Web).
- Stuffing material or an old pillow that you can re-use the stuffing.
- Eyeliner pencil to paint whiskers on the face an pink lipstick or blush for the nose.
- Optional- Gloves or mittens to match the base sweat suit
- Pre-wash the sweat suit or pajamas to remove any finish that may be in the fabric.
- Create the bunny ears. Free Pattern and Directions
- Have the costume wearer put on the sweatsuit and measure from the center of the neckline to the crotch.
- Remove the costume and lay the sweatshirt out smoothly on a flat surface.
- Lay the felt over top of the sweatshirt and pin to the center of the neckline.
- Trim felt to fit the neckline and the shoulders of the sweatsuit.
- Cut a clip in the felt at mid shoulder.
- Measure from the neckline down to the crotch measurement and mark.
- Trim across the bottom measurement.
- Fold the felt in half lengthwise.
- Round off the unfolded edge from the shoulder clip to the bottom measurement to create an oval belly shape.
- Apply fusible web to the felt from the neckline to the bottom of the sweatshirt area.
- Fuse the belly piece in place. It will hang beyond the shirt.
- Cut a large circle of the scrap bunny ear fabric. (The size will vary with the size of the costume. Use a small plate for a small child's tail or a large embroidery hoop for an adult costume.)
- Sew a running stitch or basting stitch around the edge of the circle to gather the fabric. (How Gathers are Formed)
- Stuff the gathered up circle of fabric with stuffing.
- Finish gathering the circle to enclose the stuffing.
- Pull the gathering threads tight to enclose the stuffing and sew closed.
- Hand sew the tail to he sweatsuit bottom, just above where it would be sat on, so that it is not uncomfortable to sit down.
- Use an eyeliner pencil to draw whiskers on the face. and a bit of blush on the nose to make pink nose.
