Materials
- An orange sweatsuit, pajamas or dance leotard
- A black or dark brown permanent marker
- A Hat made using Wild Ginger's Free Wild Things Software -- Directions follow
- Orange costume makeup
- Green Felt (enough to make the hat)
- Artificial Fabric Fern Leaves
Directions
- Pre-wash the sweat suit or pajamas to remove any finish that may be in the fabric.
- Use the marker to create horizontal curved lines on the costume to give it a "round" appearance.
- Using the wide brim hat pattern in the Wild Ginger's Free Wild Things Software, create a sun hat pattern with an extended band height. Cut the band and top circle out of green felt. Interface the felt if needed so that it will stand up (shouldn't be needed for a small child but you will need interfacing for an older child or adult). Sew the band and the circle together. Reinforce the bottom edge of the band with bias tape around the edge to prevent it from stretching out of shape.
- Attach fern leaves to the hat so the hat becomes the feathery leaves of a carrot.
- Use clown make up to color the costume wearers face.
