From Rhonda:

This costume started out as a used tea length bridesmaid dress purchased at a local thrift store for a few dollars. I took it with me to the fabric store and purchased the blue satin to match as well as Simplicity pattern 8967 so that I could make the top half.

I selected this particular pattern because it has a shaped "V" waistline which the bridesmaid dress also had and the option of long sleeves (important for some of the miserable weather we experience this time of year!)

I cut the skirt away from the bridesmaid dress as well as some lace trim from the top. I made the top half of Simplicity pattern 8967 inserting some lace trim at the shoulder and neckline. I then regathered the skirt and fitted it to the top. This dress is full length on my nine year old niece.

I originally made the "magic wand" for her when she was five. I used my scroll saw to cut a wooden star from one by pine (drawn freehand) and drilled a 3/8" hole into one side, into which I inserted a 3/8" dowel. I covered the star with craft glue and lots and lots of glitter. For this Halloween I removed the pink and lavender ribbon and recovered the dowel with craft glue and wrapped it with matching blue 1/4" ribbon. I then cut several lengths of different colors of 1/4" ribbon; burgundy, purple, royal blue, deep rich shades, and tied them to the dowel directly below the star. I left these ribbons rather long so that they would be more fun to wave around. Sorry I don't have a picture of the "new" wand.

The tierra and earrings were purchased in the toy department at a local store.

I really had a lot of fun with this project.
