I made these costumes the year I bought a new sewing machine and serger. I experimented with all the machine options and used the serger for trimming the neck ruffle and made fabric"pom-poms" that also used the serge to add color. (Sew a Clown Costume from a Sweat Suit or Pajamas)Halloween costumes, commercial costume sewing patterns, free Halloween Costumes, sweat suit costumes,
All of the costumes were made using commercial costume patterns and bargain fabric. I did splurge on trim for the pirate and clown accessories. The buckle on the pirate was made by cutting out the shape of a buckle from heavy interfacing, using a paint brush to cover the cut-out with glue and then apply gold glitter.
Looking at the pictures today, I wish I had spray painted the old sneakers pink to match the costumes.

The pirate costume made use of the black pants for a few years after the holiday. He won an award at a party that year for his pirate costume.
