The Face Opening
  • Place the tree over the head of the person who will be wearing the costume.
  • Arrange the tree so a "trunk" area is over the face.
  • Feel for the forehead and chin, carefully place a pin at each.
  • Mark the location of sides of the face om the tree with straight pins.
  • Remove the costume and cut an X in the face area so that you will be able to see where you are cutting when the costume is back on.
  • Replace the costume on the wearer, lining the pins up with the areas on the face.
  • Carefully trim out the area for a face opening. (Have the wearer pin their hair up and back to prevent an accidental hair cut.)
The Arm Openings
  • Place the costume on the wearer, lining up the face opening.
  • Use a straight pin to mark the location of the top of the shoulder and the front and back side of the arm when the arm is at the persons side.
  • Remove the costume and cut an X as you did for the face, at the top of the arm area.
  • Put the costume on again and trim out around the arm so that the wearer can comfortably move their arm.
