Flag openings do vary by mailbox. The measurements given here are from actual mailboxes and does allow room for most flags. It is advisable to check these measurements against the flag on your mailbox.

• Mark the Flag Opening
  • On a regular size mailbox - measure 3" up from the bottom edge and then create a 2" line, downward from the back of the 3" line, 2" long XX in from the front edge
  • On a large size mailbox - measure XX up from the bottom edge and then create a line XX" long XX in from the front edge at the Measurement from the bottom
  • Mark a 1" line down from the front edge of the line.
• Sew the Flag Opening
  • Sew a zigzag stitch on each side of the line, pivoting at the 1" front line, and sew a bar tack at the end of each line.
