Procedure For Body Of The Flag:

A standard flag is 3' by 5'. Cut your background fabric 3' 2" by 5' 4.5". You may want to make your flag shorter then 5' in order to utilize 60" wide fabric. That way you will only need a one yard piece of background fabric.

Hem both 5' edges (or long edges) and one of the 3' edges (or shorter edges) by turing under 1/4" and 1/4" again and top stitching the hem in to place.

Turn under 1/4" in the other 3' edge. Press the turned edge down 3" towards the body of the flag. Pin into place and top stitch the pressed edge to form the pole casing.

Procedure For Cupid And Heart
There are various procedures that can be used to create any of the flag designs. Use which ever method you is most comfortable for you.

  • Copy the pattern onto blocks of fabric using carbon paper. Satin Stitch on the lines. Trim away excess fabric from the block and trim out the base fabric so the design shows on both sides.

    OR

  • Cut out your designs. Pin the designs into place. Satin stitch around the edges of the design. Trim away the base fabric so the design shows on both sides.
Center Cupid on the heart and stitch into place using either of the above methods. I did not trim out the base fabric from my Cupid as I liked the effect of the red showing through and making Cupid look pink on the opposite side of the flag.

Place the heart in the center of the flag and stitch into place using either of the above methods.

Optional: Create more hearts and place on the flag as desired.
