  • On the bottom of the side, sew two rows of basting stitches in the 1/2" seam allowance, leaving tails of thread to pull for gathering.
  • Starting with the seam at a corner of the base and right sides together, match the seam to a corner so the length measurement will run on the length side of the base.
  • Match the marks to the corners, pinning them in place.
  • Gently pull the basting thread tails to gather the fabric and make it fit the edges of the bottom, distributing the gathers as evenly as possible.
  • Sew the side piece to the bottom bottom piece, using a 1/2" seam allowance, pivoting at the corners.
  • Trim the corners.
  • Apply a seam finish.
  • Press the seam towards the bottom.
