Guide Review - Book and Pattern Review

This is one of those idea books that you have a hard time putting down. I even found my daughters thumbing their way through the book, stopping on various ideas to investigate how they were done.

Even if you have sewn for years this book provides a wealth of inspiration as well as step by step instructions for things you may never knew had a name. Do you know what "suffolk puffs" are? I can see this process combined with beads in the center and stitches bringing in the sides to create petals.

A booties pattern that is included in the book is simple to sew and totally hand sewn. The possibilities for embellishment are endless. I'm thinking that these booties would be an excellent "homework" assignment for a charity sewing group. Cutting them out and teaching basic hand stitching could be covered at a meeting and supplies to finish the booties could easily travel home between meetings.

The ideas could easily be used to embellish simple sewing projects, such as tote bags to create great gifts.

Many of the embellishments shown are raised off the base fabric. I am not sure how some of these ideas would survive laundering and recommend testing them on scraps before applying them to a finished item.
