"To Go Box" Transformed

From Debbie Colgrove, About.com

Directions aren't always etched in stone. This desk organizer is a variation of the "To Go Box".

I was fascinated with the "To Go Box" but had a different idea. The original "To Go Box" in Fast, Fun & Easy Fabric Boxes by Linda Johansen , folds and fastens to carry lunch, as well as unfolds to create a place mat. But... looking at the wonderful photos, I decided it would make a great desk caddy.

I followed all of the directions until it came to the end folding, there I stitched the corners so they would stay on the outside of the box. The light fusible I had used gave the fabric enough body with cording enclosed in the satin stitch.

The next time, I will cut the flaps and sides as a single connected piece but they do stand up just fine.

The box shown here is from the large pattern. I've gone through a good part off my stash matching up coordinates, the only question left is how I am going to control myself when I visit the fabric store again. I know I saw a wonderful sewing theme print that would be perfect for fabric boxes when my daughter and I go to 4H sewing nights. I think I'll help our club make great FABRIC sewing boxes.... after all, any excuse to make more!
