I understand this has become common practice in elementary schools and those envelopes aren't making it through the whole year.
This project shares my solution to those envelopes and hope that many of you will also make these sacks for your local school. The normal number of students per teacher is around 25. I think making approximately 30 bags should cover a few years of use for a particular class. This should cover replacing lost and damaged sacks.
To Produce 30 bags you will need:
- A sewing machine
- Thread
- 1 yard of 20" wide clear pliable vinyl
- 5 Yards of 45" wide, preshrunk cotton or cotton blend washable fabric. (This will net you 30 bags. You will get 6 bags from each yard. I purchased the fabric for my bags from clearance tables. Keep your eyes peeled for bargains.)
- 5 yards of hook and loop tape
- Cut the vinyl into 5" by 4" rectangles
- Cut the fabric into 12" by half of the width of the fabric. (If the fabric is 45" wide each piece will be 12" by 22.5")
- Cut the hook and loop tape in to 6" strips.
