Tip for Practicing Even Hand Stitches

When teaching hand sewing or learning to hand sew, use gingham fabric to learn and practice sewing on. The evenly spaced squares provide a guide to use so you practice evenly spacing the stitches. As with any skill, the more you practice, the more the skill becomes second nature. By practicing evenly placing the stitches using gingham fabric, it "trains the brain" to automatically space your stitching evenly.
