This is my second Janome. I have had a Jem Gold for quite a number of years now. It's a regular workhorse. I take it to all my workshops and sewing sessions. Never a problem.
I thought I would be just as happy with the Plat. 760, but I'm not. I have to keep making myself use it even though it has a lot more features than the Jem Gold. The single most annoying thing about it is the lamp. I can hardly tell when it's on. It makes no improvement in my lighting for the sewing spot, right under the needle, that I'm working on. It's almost comical to see the lamps I have set up to compensate for it. I have a tiny book light stuck on the back of my machine, and a large desk style Ott lamp sitting on my sewing table. It's gooseneck is twisted almost directly in front of me. I complained to the store owner where I bought it and he simply said "Oh yeah, a lot of people have remarked on that. I just tell everybody to get a desk lamp."
This is no help at all. I will not buy another Janome from him for sure. And his is a Janome shop! Other small things bother me some too.
I find it difficult to understand some of the directions for a number of things. Like lowering the feed dogs. And using the needle threader. The instruction book isn't great. Maybe because it's written by someone who is translating from another language, I don't know. I no longer sing Janome's praises as much as I used to now that I'm a two Janome owner. My satisfaction level would be a 3 out of 5 points probably.
Lessons Learned
- I will not be so quick to purchase another machine based only on the fact that one of their models worked very well. Next time, I will check with every resource available to me before making the purchase.
