What Model Singer Sewing Machine You Own/Owned?

Singer Touch & Sew Model 638

How you obtained the machine? (gift, bought new, etc)

I bought the machine used from a fellow seamstress.

Approximate age of the machine

I have it over 20 years, I believe it was manufactured in 1968.

Approximate price paid for this machine?

$100, included the cabinet and extras.

What type of sewing you did/do with this machine?

All types, this is a real workhorse machine. It sews through canvas to cotton. It is easy to operate and good for all levels of sewing experience. I have operated newer machines, but none have performed as well as this Singer.

What is your satisfaction level with this machine?

I would not trade this machine. It will always be a part of my sewing room. This machine is in operation anywhere from 4 to 8 hours per day. It is dependable. I bought this machine used from a seamstress, who had a stroke, and was thus unable to sew anymore. You could see the love she had for this machine, and I have taken care of it and shown it the same love.

Advice

  • I would definitely buy another one of the same machine. In fact I have been looking for another one. It is a good solid piece of sewing equipment. Minimal maintenance other than keeping the machine properly oiled and cleaned, and I have had the gears rebuilt several times.
