I continue to have the thread ball up and the needle, then finally snap! My next purchase will be a different thread company.

Update on C C review

I just tried the C&C cotton covered quilting and piecing thread hoping it would work better than the Dual DutyXP and while this thread is much better compared to the Dual Duty XP as far as tangling,( it was pretty much tangle and snag free) the breakage on it was even worse than the dual duty XP. I am not tugging or pulling hard on it either. I contacted C&C with my complaint about the Dual Duty XP and in response I received 2 spools of replacement thread in the mail. They sent me one spool of Dual Duty Plus Hand Quilting thread in black and one spool of Dual Duty Plus Glace Hand Quilting thread in white. While I appreciate their attempt these were not the colors I purchased or needed. Now I will be contacting them again with my complaint about the Cotton Covered thread breaking constantly. My next purchase will be one of the other brands listed on this forum.

horrible C C thread

I just started hand sewing again. I was using J&P coats USA Dual Duty plus cotton covered polyester extra strong hand quilting thread that I had purchased years ago. It is wondeful. No snags, breaks, etc. I needed some more colors so went to my local Ben Franklin and all I could get was C&C Dual Duty XP All Purpose polyester covered polyester made in mexico. It is horrible. Breaks, snags, tangles. I have searched the internet looking for the other kind with no luck. I am going to write to C&C and complain about this horrible thread. Hope others who don't like it do the same. In the meantime I am going to try another brand and hope I have better luck. C&C is BAD.

Coats Clark

Coats & Clark has been a household icon for generations. I had many problems the last year or so with my thread shreding & breaking just when I get a few stitches sewn. I thought it was my new machine..maybe I wasn't threading it right. I checked the book and it was threaded right. I tried same thread in my old machine..same thing..breaks and shreds after a few stitches..balls up. I could not imagine why. I got so fustrated with it..I stopped quilting for a time. I am so happy to know that it was the thread and not me. Many times C&C threads are all that are readily available when you live in rural areas. I now will make a trip to a quilt shop to buy my threads or buy reputable threads from quilting supply online. Thanks all for sharing this info on Coats & Clark products. This gives me the courage and desire to try quilting again!

Thread

I use Gutermann thread exclusively to piece and quilt with. I've also been told Masterpiece by Superior Threads is an excellent product. It's available on larger cones. When I use up my storehouse of Gutermann, I plan to try some of the Masterpiece. The nice thing about Gutermann, is you can find it for 50% off at Hancock's and JoAnn's occasionally.

Coats and Clark Thread - cheapened

I've been sewing for 45 years - C&C used to be the premier thread to use...no longer -it breaks and splits and drives me insane when using it on anything other than mending and when used on mending projects I find that I'm re-mending. I have some C&C thread spools that are more than 20 years old that are wonderful to use compared to what I can purchase today. Absewing said thread goes bad when it gets old, so far, I've not seen that.

C & C thread

I am new to sewing. I have a brand new machine and have gone through 5 brand new needles just trying to fix a few holes in garments. I thought I just could not adjust my tension right ( on a new machine) new needle new & different fabric...... I can not even get one or two stitches and it shreds or breaks. I am so glad I found these comments. Thank you, I am not crazy just need a different brand of thread. Can anyone recommend a good strong thread to sew patches in denim? Please advise, I so greatly appropriate any help anyone can give. Happy sewing ladies... Note from Debbie-- Double check the way you are threading the machine. Visit you local fabric store, sign up for their mailing list for coupons and check out the different threads available

Seamtress

I want to find out if thread is dated somehow? I used some old thread and one spool was fine and another one shredded causing me to stop every 3 inches. Note from Debbie -- There is no date that I know of. If there is a regularity to how often it breaks, look at the spool and be sure it is not hanging up or shredding on the spool itself as it feeds off the spool.

C C thread

I'm another one. Many decades C&C user. I sent two spools back to them last month. There were very nice about it and sent me two new spools. which I used and had no problem.

Yes, I do use Coats and Clark threads.

When I was a child, my mother always used C&C. Naturally when I started sewing C&C was the only thread I ever considered. It's strong, and at times, it outlasts the garments.
