threading a needle

I fold the thread in half, then wrap it tight around the needle to get a tight crease in the thread, then pass the folded end through the eye. Works every time. Especially when I do cross stitch.

Threading a Sewing Needle

I got so frustrated at getting the thread in the hole and then losing it as I tried to pull it through. I now hold a piece of scotch tape behind the hole and then pull it through.

How to thread a needle

I find it helps if you cut the thread at an angle. That would create a point, making it easier to thread needle.

Threading needles

The needle hole is wider in one side, so I just turn the needle over.

Needle Threading

Tape a YELLOW post it note and hold the needle in front of it. Works like a charm! Also works for machine threading.

Turn the needle over, one side always threads easier than the other. It has to do with the way it is manufactured.

I go to a craft store and buy a long (2-1/2") bead needle with a flower on onee end and a wire loop on the other end. Put the tip wire thru the needle FROM THE BACK THEN THREEAD THRU THE WIRE & PULL THRU (TO THE BACK). If you do this from the front it will be threaded wrong way. TRY IT. ljs thru

Threading needles

Since I have had "over 40 eyes," I do best if I can stand close to sunlight window while threading a needle. If it's dark outside, then I use an Ott Lite. The full spectrum light seems to help my depth perception and really sharpens the details.

How to Thread a Needle

I once read that if you bring the needle toward your thread (rather than trying to push the thread into the needle) it works much better. I've tried it, and it's worked probably more than half the time, much to my surprise. It's worth a try, anyway.

I need a LOT more light than I ever used to, to thread a needle. Black thread is the hardest of all. When I thread a needle with black thread I look through the eye to a white background. With any other color than black, I look through the eye of the needle to a different color than the thread I am using.
