Great Grandmother's Gift

Wednesday November 4, 2009

Free pattern for an apron that ties around the waistWhen I was very young and just learning to cook, my Great Grandmother sent me an apron she had made. Many, many years (more years than I want to count) later I still have that apron. The only problem is that the thread is now giving way so if I try to tie the apron, the ties break off the body of the apron.... so I decided it's time to remake that apron... and I did. It's a simple to sew, really great apron and doesn't have gathers that tend to "fluff" the waistline.

I can never get another apron from that wonderful Great Grandmother but I can carry on the tradition. I think I'll make them for Christmas gifts this year. Buying the fabric on sale will make them an economical gift. I know I am making a couple to have on hand for Thanksgiving so anyone that wants to help in the kitchen can keep their clothes protected.

I wish you would make some computer cover patterns available. They are so hard to find/\. Thanks

Hmmm… interesting idea. I do have a lap top case and there is a messenger bag for a lap top in “Teach Yourself Visually Sewing” but you are talking about a cover for desktop computers? As in keyboard, monitor, and CPU right? I wonder how many size variations there are in different units. You could use the sewing machine cover directions ,,, they are generic in how to take the measurements needed for the cover. Please let me know if it works for you.

I would like to save patterns to my computer but when I do, I am unable to open them. They appear as a square and do not look like other patterns I save. I make aprons for the church bazaar and really like the pattern featured today.

your grandmothers aprion story brought back a wonderful memory for me. When I was a child, my grandmother was teaching me to sew on her mothers treadle machine. The first project she chose for me was an apron. I used it for many years, and saved it for many more. These are memories that cannot be replaced. Thanks for the reminder

The memory of your great grandmother helped me to remember mine and my grandmother. My great grandmother made pj pillow holders and pillowcases with hidden pockets in them. My grandmother made quilts from old neckties and used cloth. She made one for all her children and grandchildren. I still have and use mine. I do not have patterns for the items my great grandmother made. Thank you. I enjoy your comments very much.
