Fabric or Ribbon Roses
Debbie Colgrove
as shown on ring-bearer's pillow

Materials:
  • ribbon or fabric cut to double the width of the desired finished flower petals.
  • strong thread
  • hand sewing needle

Note: If you are working with fabric, fold the fabric in half, press and baste the long unfinished edge. If you are using ribbon, baste a long edge.
  • Gather the long edge of the fabric or ribbon by pulling the thread.
  • Fold over one end to a triangle formation, stitch into place. Repeat.
  • Gather and roll the fabric or ribbon, until you have achieved the desired size. Stitch through the gathered base of the rose as you roll to hold it in place. Gradually loosen the petals as you wrap them.
  • Tuck the end of the last petal on to the bottom of the rose.
  • Buds are made by using only a bit of gathering and wrapping around only two or three times.
  • Tie off and knot the thread in the bottom of the rose.
