What Model Singer Sewing Machine You Own/Owned?

I have several Singer machines, 3 from the 40's, a 1975 and one from the 60

How you obtained the machine? (gift, bought new, etc)

Gifts, yard sale, thrift shop finds

Approximate age of the machine

1940s x 3, 1960s x 1, 1975

Approximate price paid for this machine?

the most I paid was $50

What type of sewing you did/do with this machine?

I do most of my sewing on the 1945 and the 1975 machines, both home dec and apparel sewing. They are fantastic machines, durable and reliable. They are used weekly. The other machines are used less often, usually if one of my students' "new" machines breaks during class and they need something else to use.

What is your satisfaction level with this machine?

I love my old Singers, they are my favorite. I am very satisfied. The old machines, those black ones, will never die. You can still get parts and attachments for them. The worst they will need is new motors that attach to the back and new wiring, simple jobs for a sewing machine repairman.

Advice

  • If you don't mind doing bound buttonholes (my favorite) you'll never miss modern machines.
